Ore

Ore continues artist bree gant’s investigations into temporality and process as performance, turning from the landscape of the city toward how we move through ourselves. Inspired by the artist’s first mammogram, Ore emerged from leaning into the experience of contorting and witnessing self. The exhibition comprises an essential cross section of gant’s work, including their latest series of prints, family artifacts, dance video studies, and a new performance piece, situating her work on urban transit and mobility justice in relation to familial lineage, interiority, and myth.

The artworks included in this show were created during residencies with The Studios of Key West, Surf Pointe Foundation, McColl Center for Art and Innovation, and Talking Dolls Studio, with funding from Culture Source and the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.

bree gant (she/they/slim) is an artist and thinker from the Westside of Detroit using photography, video, film, performance, and print media to investigate workings of power in everyday life. They travel the country for residencies and speaking engagements with institutions like McColl Center for Arts and Innovation, Surf Point Foundation, Detroit Institute of Arts, rootoftwo, and Detroit Narrative Agency. bree graduated from Howard University in 2011 with a BA in Film, and has since trained in restorative practices, organizing, and wilderness first aid.
